Strategic Planning

Strategic planning is a method for charting your course over the next year or more.

There are 5 key components to keep in mind when developing your plan.

1. The true value of strategic planning is the process by which the plan is developed. It is an invaluable tool for examining the true "net worth" of your current situation.

2. No matter how diligent your thinking, processing or implementation there is no such animal as the "perfect plan." Planning must be acknowledge as dynamic and not as in existence in a vacuum.

3. Planning is not the result of an epiphany. Planning is more like the rudder of a large ship. Impact may be initially imperceptible but ultimately determines direction and destination.

4. The assessment you do for your plan does not usually reveal things to be as dismal or a rosey as you initially thought.

5. Make a small start. But, make a start!
Strategic planning is really about developing a personal vision for the future. Without a plan we get too wrapped up in the present and lose sight of our goals for the future. If we wish to make significant and lasting growth in our lives, me must keep our eyes on that future destination.
